Explain Shift Type - Normal, Semi Flexible, Flexible

Modified on Fri, 19 Sep at 12:33 PM

This article explains the different shift types.

Shift TypeWorking Hours Requirement
Start / End Time
Impact
Normal ShiftMust follow fixed in/out times as defined in shift setting
Fixed start and end time
Late-in and early-out are tracked as exceptions
Semi FlexibleMust fulfill the full-day working hours set in the shift setting
Start and end times can vary (within range)
Total daily hours are still required. The system will detect the latest possible clock-in and earliest possible clock-out time, and will flag either a late-in or early-out as an exception.
FlexibleMust fulfill the full-day working hours set in the shift setting
No fixed start or end time
Maximum flexibility, focus is on the total daily hours still required

Normal: The total working hours is calculated automatically by the system, and employees must work fixed hours between a defined start and end time.

Semi-Flexible: Employees must complete the required hours within a set time window, such as 5 hours anytime between 8 AM to 7 PM.

Example

Shift Setup:

  • Shift Start:  9:00 AM

  • Shft End: 10:00 PM

  • Required working hours: 8 hours

Scenarios:

E14:3022:40

Exception Logic:

1. In this example, the possible latest clock-in time is 14:00, and the possible earliest clock-out time is 17:00.
• If an employee clocks in later than 14:00, it will be recorded as Late In.
• If an employee clocks out earlier than 17:00, it will be recorded as Early Out.

2. If your total work hours meets required working hours, then there will be no exception.

Flexible: Employees must complete the required hours in a day without any time range restriction, such as 8 hours at their preferred schedule.
