This article explains the different shift types.
Shift Type | Working Hours Requirement | Start / End Time | Impact |
Normal Shift | Must follow fixed in/out times as defined in shift setting | Fixed start and end time | Late-in and early-out are tracked as exceptions |
Semi Flexible | Must fulfill the full-day working hours set in the shift setting | Start and end times can vary (within range) | Total daily hours are still required. The system will detect the latest possible clock-in and earliest possible clock-out time, and will flag either a late-in or early-out as an exception. |
Flexible | Must fulfill the full-day working hours set in the shift setting | No fixed start or end time | Maximum flexibility, focus is on the total daily hours still required |
Normal: The total working hours is calculated automatically by the system, and employees must work fixed hours between a defined start and end time.
Semi-Flexible: Employees must complete the required hours within a set time window, such as 5 hours anytime between 8 AM to 7 PM.
Example
Shift Setup:
Shift Start: 9:00 AM
Shft End: 10:00 PM
Required working hours: 8 hours
Scenarios:
Scenario | In | Out | Working Hours | Actual Overtime | Exception |
A | 08:00 | 17:00 | 8H (09:00-17:00) | 1H (08:00-09:00) | - |
B | 08:00 | 16:00 | 7H (09:00-16:00) | 1H (08:00-09:00) | Early Out |
C | 10:00 | 17:00 | 7H (10:00 -17:00) | - | Early Out |
D | 14:01 | 16:59 | 2H 58M (14:01 - 16:59) | - | Late In, Early Out |
E | 14:30 | 22:40 | 7H 30M (14:30 - 22:00) | 0H 40M (22:00-22:40) | Late In |
Exception Logic:
1. In this example, the possible latest clock-in time is 14:00, and the possible earliest clock-out time is 17:00.
• If an employee clocks in later than 14:00, it will be recorded as Late In.
• If an employee clocks out earlier than 17:00, it will be recorded as Early Out.
2. If your total work hours meets required working hours, then there will be no exception.
Flexible: Employees must complete the required hours in a day without any time range restriction, such as 8 hours at their preferred schedule.
