Creating Core Competency Template/Library

The purpose of creating a Competency template is for you to have a compilation of competencies that you will be using as a base to assess how competent is your personnel for their current position.


Step 1

To start creating a Competency Template, navigate to the left menu and follow the step below to the Competency Library page.



Step 2

Once you are on the Competency Library page as shown below, you may click on Add New(4) to create a new template, or click on one of the previously created competency templates at (5) as shown below. 



Step 3

After clicking Add New (4), you will be navigated to the page below. Start by choosing a name for this template and fill it in under (6), followed by entering a label used for reporting purposes in (7)


Next, you will need to determine how many levels of competency do you currently practice, Below is an example:


  • 1 level - Leadership
  • 2 level - Leadership > Communication
  • 3 level - Leadership > Communication > Clarity of Instructions


Once you have determined the number of levels of competency you practice in your organization, you may proceed to select the level under (8). 

Next, you will need to select the rating scale, that you will use to measure the competencies you are creating right now by clicking on (9), the options provided in the drop-down are from your existing Competency rating scale created here. You may notice there is a custom scale available next to the drop-down selection, this is an option for you to create a custom scale to be used on the spot that works similarly to the competency scale template.


Now that you have completed the based setting, we may proceed to enter the competency at (11), the display of (11) will varies depending on how many levels you have selected in (8). To input, just click on the word 'Level 1/2/3' and you will notice a typing blinker, which indicates you are able to start typing. If you would like to add more rows, just click on the designated '+' sign on each row, e.g. (12).


Located on (13) is where you will find the weightage field for this specific competency, in which (14), is the total weightage from the list of competencies you have entered.


*Note: It is not compulsory for you to enter exactly 100% of the total weightage, you may enter the amount as you like, and the system will automatically help you calculate it out of 100%


Once you have finished entering the competencies, proceed to click on (15).



Step 3

Once you are on the next tab (15), your screen will be displayed as below. The option on (16) will only display if you select 2 levels and above, otherwise, the selection on (17) is where you choose the competency that you would like to fill in the description for. There are two locations to fill in the description, (18) is where you filled in a general description of the specific competency, and (19) is where you put in a description for each rating. Repeat until you completed all the competencies.


When you are done with the description, click on the 'Save' button in the top right corner (20) to save your progress.
