This alert appears when an employee tries to submit a leave request that the system flags as unplanned.
This alert appears because the leave type's settings is set Block Unplanned Leave.
To allow unplanned leave requests to be submitted, you must change the leave type's Unplanned Leave Behavior to either "Allow Unplanned Leave" or "Treat all as normal leave".
Step 1
Go to Setting (a) > Leave (b) > Leave Type (c).
Step 2
Select the leave type that facing this error from the leave type lists.
Step 3
In General Setting tab, scroll to Employee Self Service Policy to find Unplanned Leave Behavior.
Unplanned Leave Behavior defines how the system handles leave requests that don’t meet the minimum advance notice or backdate limit set in the leave type settings.
Click Edit to update the behavior. Choose between:
Allow Unplanned Leave: Allows employees to apply for leave with short notice or backdated dates within limits.
Treat All as normal leave: Allows all short notice and backdated requests to be treated as standard leave applications without "Unplanned" label. However, backdated request that exceeds maximum days back will still be blocked.
Review and adjust the following if necessary:
- Minimum Days in advance (for future leave)
- Maximum Days Back (for back dated leave)

Step 4
Click Save. All done! You’ve updated your leave settings.
Your employee should now be able to submit a request for backdated and short notice leave depending on your leave type settings.
