Enable OT Break Before or After Shift

Modified on Fri, 3 Oct at 4:44 PM

The Enable OT Break feature lets HR or Supervisors set this up in Worksy shift pattern, ensuring:

  • Employees have a proper rest period before and after shift worked.

  • No overtime recorded during the gap between shifts.

How the OT Break Feature Works

Early OT
hours the employee works before the shift.
Early OT Break
mandatory gap before the shift starts.
Shift
normal working hours (e.g. 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
Late OT Breakmandatory gap after the shift ends.
Late OThours the employee works after the shift.

Example

Early OT2 hour5:00 AM – 7:00 AM
Early OT Break1 hour7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Shift
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Late OT Break1 hour5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Late OT2 hour6:00 PM – :00 PM

In this setup, the system blocks the break windows (7–8 AM and 5–6 PM) so employees cannot do OT there. Only the OT before and after the breaks is counted as payable.

Steps to Enable OT Break

Step 1

Go to Settings (a) > Attendance (b) > Shift (c). Then, select a shift from the list.

Step 2

In the Pre-Approved OT section, toggle the button and you’ll see Early OT and Late OT fields.

  • Once you enter hours in these fields, the "Enable OT break" option will appear.

  • If Early OT and Late OT are set as 0 hr 0 min, "Enable OT break" will not appear.

Step 3

Tick the checkbox to enable the OT break.

Enter the break duration (how long employees must rest before or after shift). Click Save to confirm your shift pattern settings.

Step 2

On the right side of screen, use "Filter" to select the related employees who are assigned to the shift pattern you configured with OT breaks.

  • Late OT

  • The timeline spans a full 24 hours, and each dot represents 1 hour.

  • 5A until 7A = Early OT (2hrs)

  • 7A until 8A = Early OT Break (1hr)

  • 8A until 5P = Shift start and end time

  • 5P until 6P = Late OT Break (1hr)

  • 6P until 8P = Late OT (2hrs)

Why This Matters

  • Ensures compliance with rest requirements.

  • Prevents employees from performing overtime during the defined break.
