Leave Entitlement for Transition Years

What is Year Transition?

This transition happens from every end of the year to a new year, for example, from December 2023 to January 2024.

When transitioning to a new year, there are specific considerations regarding the Annual Leave Entitlement. Therefore, additional steps need to be taken into account during this period.

In these guidelines, we will use 2023 for the current year, and 2024 for next year.

Entitlement for December 2023

For the Annual Leave setting with Leave Earning Method By Month and the Scheduler set to generate for the Previous Month, it's crucial to understand that employees will only receive the December 2023 entitlement in January 2024.

This consideration assumes the activation of the "Re-calculate Previous Year" feature in the Scheduler setting.

In this scenario, employees will not be able to utilize their December 2023 entitlement in the same year since it was received in January 2024.

Consequently, the December 2023 entitlement will contribute to the Brought Forward Annual Leave (assuming the settings allow Bring Forward).

If the employer wishes employees to use the December 2023 entitlement immediately, they can choose to manually generate it at the start of December.

Bring Forward Policy Changes

For Annual Leave with changes in the Bring Forward policy in consecutive years, such as from 2022-2023 to 2023-2024, where the policy has changed, it is advisable not to enable the Re-calculate previous year feature.

Enabling this feature would generate entitlement from previous years based on the current Bring Forward policy.

In such cases, it's necessary to manually generate the December 2023 entitlement first.

Then, the Zero Entitlement Table method should be utilized to ensure that the Annual Leave for 2024 captures the Bring Forward from 2023 with the new policy, without crediting the January 2024 entitlement yet.
